Foreword


	It is always an awkward moment when I have to say something about myself. One´s own website is like advertising oneself. But in today´s global scenario, the world has come too close. Without my knowing, one of my poems reached the American text-book ´Language and Gender´. I started getting reactions on it on social media. Several poems written by me are being circulated on What´s App without my name being acknowledged. Hence, I felt, some information should reach to those who are interested; in the right form and so I decided to launch this website. About me : I shall begin with my name. My maiden name was Vijaya Barve and now I am Ashwini Dhongde after marriage. More than 45 years have passed and so, people know me more by this name. I was born in Pune on 21st January 1947. My father D.K.Barve was a professor of Marathi. My mother Malati Bave was the founder and head-mistress of a primary school. I did my post-graduation in English and then, while teaching English at SNDT college, I completed my Ph.D. in ´Linguistic Analysis of Commercial Display Advertisements´. Thereafter I am working as a Ph.D. guide and examiner. I worked as a Principal since 1992 in the same college and retired after a long term of 14 years, in 2007. I have travelled extensively and also have been writing continuously. ´Woman´ is the topic of my study and interest. I have also written on exploited, neglected, down-trodden and struggling people. I also love to edit and love to write for children. Since, the subject of my study was English, I began writing with the adaptation of an English novel.
